22. Can I help support this Web site?

23.  What's with all the black and orange??

24.  Is anyone getting paid for this site?

1. How do I enter / update my information?

There are links in the banner to Add and Edit your entries.  If you're updating an entry, please treat it as if you were posting here for the first time, including name, email address, and new information.  Information you enter will overwrite or append to your old information.  If we can tell you are simply adding information, i.e. new child, class reunion info, etc., we'll add it to the bottom of your existing entry.

2. I entered my information.  Why hasn't it shown up online yet?

It's not a glitch in the system, or something you did wrong :).  At this time, this site is updated manually.  Therefore, if the webmaster or our staff member is out of town or unable to update information, the entry will sit in our email file.   Generally entries are added within a few days.  Sometimes you'll find your entry added within minutes of submitting it; it really depends on our personal workload at the time.

3. Why can't I submit my sign-in form?

You may not have email enabled with your browser.  Many AOL users might get online, open up Microsoft Internet Explorer, and click an email link.  The computer will attempt to open Microsoft Outlook, its email client, and find no path defined.   You'll get a message that the computer is unable to send email.  Make sure you are using the correct email client and Internet access method when you visit an email link.

4. My graduation year isn't listed, what do I do?

Enter it in the "Comments" field.  At this time, we have nearly every year from 1925-2005 listed, so we don't anticipate this being much of a problem.

5. I want to submit a photo of myself, how do I do this?

Photos can be emailed to
webmaster@beverlyhighalumni.com.    Please include your name and graduation year.  Photos are generally resized to 4"X6" or smaller, to conserve Web space.

6. What do the alumni entries typically contain?

Generally entries contain the graduate's name (or married name), email address, a Web site address if one exists, and general information about what the graduate has been up to all these years.  This information might include city of residence, children, occupation, and interesting accomplishments.  It's also fine to post Class Reunion information, requests to find particular people, and comments about this web site (positive comments are appreciated!) :).

7.  What should alumni entries NOT contain?

We strongly caution against including HOME ADDRESSES and PHONE NUMBERS.  Please think about the possible ramifications!  Anyone with a modem or high-speed connection has access to this site.

Entries containing vulgarity will not be accepted, or will be severely edited for content.

Entries known to be fraudulent will not be accepted.

8. Is there a complete list of BHS Grads at this site?

Nope.  Unless BHS decides to provide us with one.

9. Why am I not listed for a particular year, or on the Master List of Graduates?

In order to be listed on the master list (http://www.beverlyhighalumni.com/masterlist.htm) you do need to fill out the sign-in form.  This will place information about you in the Master list, as well as your particular graduation year.

10. How long do postings in the bulletin board remain online?

Some will probably stay there for good, especially requests to find other classmates.  Others that are deemed outdated, (i.e. Class Reunion information for the year 2003), will be deleted as necessary.  Basically, if it's still topical and current, it'll stay online.

11. How do i get in touch with a former classmate?

About 99% of our listed graduates provide us with an email address, and this is by far the easiest way to contact someone you haven't seen in years.  We don't recommend listing phone numbers here, but some graduates provide that information as well.

12. Why aren't current high school students listed here?

It's an alumni site; new years are added in June of their graduation year.  Basically, current high school students don't really have a need for this site, since they can find each other at BHS each day.  However, we are considering adding a page for current high school students who have MOVED AWAY from Beverly and want to keep in touch with old friends.  If you are in this situation, please use our Bulletin Board page instead at this time.

13. Where can I find class reunion information?

Check the year of your graduation first.  Then try our bulletin board (http://members.aol.com/bhsalumnus/myguests.htm).  There are a LOT of entries there, so you might use our computer's FIND utility and search for your graduation year.   Finally, you might try using the SEARCH utility on the main page of our Web site, it's very helpful.

14. Where can I find photos of Beverly and the High School?

Check out our Scenes of Beverly page (http://www.beverlyhighalumni.com/scenes.htm).   There are a LOT of past and present photos of Beverly and BHS there.

15. How do I find a particular person if I don't know their graduation year?

Check our Master List of Graduates, or use our convenient "SEARCH" utility on the main page of the Web site.

16. How do I get in touch with someone at BHS?

The high school has assumed financial responsibilities for the Web site, however at this time we do not have a particular contact at BHS.  Keep issues coming through our email address, webmaster@beverlyhighalumni.com, and we'll get back to you.

17. Can I get my own web page attached to this site?

Check out http://www.beverlyhighalumni.com/webpages.htm; you can sign up for an inexpensive personal or small business Web page there.

18. How can I get the word out about this site?  Where has it been featured?

This site has been featured in the Salem News and Boston Globe; check out http://www.beverlyhighalumni.com/article.htm for details.  You can let friends and other graduates know about the site, and you can post it to search engines.  If your college has its own search engine, or your company has its own search engine, feel free to add its URL to it.  This site is registered with most of the major search engines (Google, Lycos, AltaVista, Yahoo, etc.).

19. How did this thing get started, anyway?

Karen C. began this site in June, 1999, after finding scarce resources for BHS graduates on the Internet.  A dead site, beverlyma.com, listed about 70 BHS graduates and email addresses, but as the site was no longer being maintained, it was impossible to add anything new to it.  Realizing the importance of keeping in touch with old friends, we created this site on America Online with just 2 MegaBytes of space.  Response was amazing, and within a few weeks we had over 100 people listed.  Two news articles and two years later, the site is celebrating its 2500th posting and has swelled in size to about 20 MegaBytes!  Call it a tribute to our humble beginnings -- we still have one page tied to our old AOL site; that's our bulletin board.

20. Are similar alumni sites available online for BHS and other schools?

There are a plethora of alumni sites online; most are national, with links to a page for Beverly, MA or Beverly High School.  None have nearly as many graduates signed up as we do here.  Still, if you can't find the graduate you're looking for here, you might try such sites as Classmates.com, PlanetAlumni.com, or MassSchools.com.   Beverlygrads.com is beginning to do well. Salem has an alumni web site with over 3000 graduates registered!  (They started earlier than we did).  The link is on our main page, and that particular site has links to alumni sites for most Massachusetts cities.

21. Where can I find other Beverly-related sites?

There are links to several Beverly sites on the main page of our site.  Also, you might try a search engine; make sure you include "MA" or "Massachusetts" in your search, or you may get 11,000 listings for Beverly Hills, CA, Beverly D'Angelo, and the Beverly Hillbillies.  Several Beverly businesses also have their own Web sites (Cummings Center, Papa Gino's, Historical Society, etc.).  Also many of our graduates have Beverly-related websites; you can use the Search utility on our main page.  Look for "http://"

22. Can I help support this Web site?

Certainly!  Although the site is being subsidized by Beverly High School, we can always use help with the design, the database, the site's exposure, photos of Beverly, reunion information, and school news.  Anything you feel might be helpful would be much appreciated.  For example, the "SEARCH" utility, the weather & time information for Beverly, and many of the images of the city have all been provided by BHS alumni.

23.  What's with all the black and orange??

School colors!  Actually, Beverly's team hasn't always been the Panthers.   Anyone have information on the previous team name/mascot/colors?

24.  Is anyone getting paid for this site?

No, it's a labor of love.  It may one day be a labor of each graduating class, but for now, the original Webmaster is still running the show.  BHS began sponsoring this site in May, 2001, thanks entirely to former advisor Bob Loiselle.
