Years at BHS: 1983-1986
Remarks: Hi, from Tucson, Arizona. I taught English and was advisor to "The
Ledger" at BHS prior to our move to Arizona in 1986. For the past 14 years, I have
taught and coordinated an alternative English program which I wrote and designed to help
at-risk youth develop literacy skills and 21st century workplace skills and to help them
experience success in the real world and in the workplace. I've written 2 books (Natl.
Educational Service) and a Case Study and several articles for ASCD publications (Assoc.
for Supervision & Curriculum Development)and have been featured in "NEA
Today," and recently in "USA Today," as a member of the All USA Teacher
Team 2000. The progam has gained national attention in the past 5 or 6 years. I started a
501(c)(3) organization called Educational ReadSources, Inc., and have been training
teachers from others states to create programs based on my model at their sites. It's been
tremendously exciting and rewarding to be impacting students here an!d in other parts of
the U.S. I've been invited to participate in the official opening ceremony of sites in TN
and SC. This year life has been good. After being widowed 2 1/2 years ago, I met and had a
storybook romance with a wonderful man, (an optometrist) and we were married in Feb. this
year. We took cruises to the Mexican Riviera and to Alaska this year, and are enjoying our
5 children and 4 grandchildren. In March of 2001, we will dig out our winter clothes and
head back to Boston for 4 days to present at the 2001 ASCD Conference. If you get a
chance, visit the Educational ReadSources website at www.edreadsources.com . Best regards to all
at Beverly High. I still have fond memories of my years there.

Remarks: I'm still at BHS teaching English and Mass Media. I am currently awaiting word on
whether or not I passed the National Board Certification process this past year. My wife
and I recently became empty nested as our daughter got married in August, one son moved to
San Francisco and the youngest returned to college for his senior year. Ray Novack's band
Horizon rocked the house at the wedding reception. I just completed my fourth, and
unfortunately, final year as BHS golf coach. My wife and I plan to travel cross country
next summer to visit the son in San Francisco, and see where else we end up. Beverly
High has joined the digital revolution with recent acquisitions which allow students to
shoot digital tape and edit in computers.

Remarks: Hello from the English wing [A-house: 2nd floor] of BHS. I remember all of my
many classes so fondly; I was with all of you "to the end", having served--and
still serving--as Graduation Director, along with Mr. Carter, Mrs. Schack, Mr. Tanous, Mr.
Aucone--and now, Mr. Bisceglia. I also recall the many musicals and "Senior Class
Plays" that we worked on together in the 1970' and 1980's. I am still enchanted with
the high school age student; this year, I have 4 senior English classes, a creative
writing elective, and a "Women and Literature" elective. I'd love to hear from
all of you again--type to me soon! God bless, Love, CMH

Always love to hear from colleagues and students.
Just looked over classes of 1984 - 1997 .... What
good memories and im impressed with your success. I currently reside as the

a start in education and the students helped make me a successful education.
Thanks.

Years at BHS: 1982 - Present
Remarks: Still here, pluggin' away-fighting for truth, justice and the American way. Been
teaching so long that retirement is looming on the horizon in June of 2002. Have spent
last several years primarily as a teacher of freshmen classes. Those freshmen classes, by
the way, are now built around the "Team" concept that you lived through in your
middle school years.
11-7-00 - Still alive and kickin'. If you like this website as much
as I do, send the Webmaster a note of
thanks. Also, contact B.H.S directly and ask them to officially $upport thi$ web $ite so
that it will continue forever and ever. It has been great to get back in touch with so
many classroom friends from Briscoe and B.H.S. And it wouldn't have happened without
Karen's great work and generosity. Stay in touch. Life's too short to pass by a chance to
say hello to people you know.
6-02 - Just want to update a bit. I am now scheduled to go out
to pasture on Feb.1st, '03. That's a change. And this website continues to be
a great place for B.H.S. grads to meet again. We have it set up now so that each
graduating class picks up the tab for one year's worth of fees. The Class of '96 has
picked up the sight name rights for the next three years. I would very much like to
hear from members of the class of '96 soon. I have a request to make of the class,
and need input from the members. ps. I thank my lucky stars for Caitlin Tsoutsouris.
Without her help, some certain pieces of business by the Class of '96, such as
scholarships, would not have happened. Hope you all finally enjoy a reunion.
4/07 - It's been a while since I
last updated my postings. Things are going great especially with the world's
first perfect person, my grandson Trevor. I now have a new email address. It's
bplois65@verizon.net One of the special things about this website has been the
opportunity to reconnect with people emailing me, who in the past were nice
enough to share a classroom with me way back in the past, as far back as 1968.
Hope this never ends. Respectfully, Mr. L.

In 1997 I was diagnosed with ALS. The disease forced me to retire early. We
built an addition on to my daughter's house in Centerville. It is handicap
accessable, which makes getting around in a wheelchair easier. I enjoy visits from former
students, faculty and soccer players. I am in contact with many BHS alumni via
email. I would love for you all to email me so i can hear how you are doing

Remarks: For me, Beverly High is still a great place to be. I've been on a great ninth
grade team for the past four years; we're located in C House with Lew Lattanzi as
Assistant Principal and Christy Morris as secretary. One semester per year I teach one
Honors American Lit class, my all time favorite. How could things get any better! My older
daughter, Kaitlin, loves being a freshman at Colby, and Gillian, the younger, is a
sophomore at Manchester High. Mary Jane Lentz, my good friend from past days in Brown
House with Mr. Carter, still lives around the corner, and we keep in touch. Thanks to
Karen for the idea and the effort and to Bob Loiselle for the "gentle push" to
join the web site.
12/03 - While the first major snow storm of the season is raging
outside, I am procrastinating checking those research papers. What better time to update
my posting. Thursday evening we had a wonderful retirement party for Steve Sheriff;
it was a perfect opportunity to visit with many Beverly retirees - all looking happy and
healthy, I might add. I'm looking forward to having my daughters return after what
seems to be grueling final exams - Kait is a senior at Colby College, Mike LaPenna and
Linda Seal's alma mater, and Jill is a freshman at Tufts. I'm back advising the yearbook
again and loving every hectic minute of it. My journalism class has been invaluable,
helping write copy for the yearbook, as well as the Ledger. Many of my honors
students were involved in a first rate production of YOU CAN'T TAKE IT WITH YOU this
weekend. Teaching is still a pleasure, and Beverly High is a special place to be.
Keep in touch and let us know what's going on with your lives. !!
played telephone tag with Abby Casper in New York City last April and
hope to see her and her daughter and dog sometime soon! Happy and healthy holidays
to you all. Sincerely, Slaugie

Remarks: After 30 wonderful years of teaching mathematics at BHS, I retired in 1996. Since
then I have gotten so involved in voluntary work, that I never have an idle moment.
Quilting is now my major activity, and after making a quilt (with the help of about a
dozen women) for the city of Beverly, we formed a Quilting Guild. I serve as the President
of the Guild, and our primary function is to make quilts for charity. We are presently
making a quilt for an auction in Boston to benefit Rosie's Place. Hope to hear from former
students, and wish all of you a nice holiday season! Mary Lou
3/02 - I've been teaching MCAS Math at Danvers High School since Feb.
2001 and really enjoyed it, so I've signed on again for the school year 2002-2003 and will
be teaching regular classes Geometry and Algebra. After that I think I'll retire
again!

Remarks: Hi graduatates. Things are going pretty well in the music room. The band totals
130 players, and there is 150 in the chorus. For those who remember my first child
...Kelly...she is a Senior this year. What a rush.
My youngest, Erica, enters BHS next year. I guess we are all getting old! If you are a
music alum, make sure you come back and say "Hi", or catch a rehearsal or
performance. We would love to hear from you! Also, my own band plays clubs on the North
Shore. Check out the web site and maybe we'll see you!
2/04 - Still going strong in the music room in 2004.
Band with guard is over 140, chorus is over 180, and Jazz Band is very dangerous this
year! My oldest daughter, Kelly is currently a Junior at URI (I bet some of you remember
when she was born!) and is in Costa Rica right now studying her major, Spanish. Erica, my
youngest, is a Jiunior at BHS, plays lacrosse and is a varsity cheerleader for two sports.
My wife works for Weight Watchers and is doing great, while I am still in my group HORIZON
after 30 years, and doing some solo stuff and DJing on the side. Through this web site,
graduates have written me from California to Japan, and I love it when I can catch up on
your exploits. Don't be afraid to write and if you are ever back at BHS, stop down and say
hi.

somany names I remember! Heck, Erin Scanlon (BHS '94) is even teaching in my old
classroom! What is most amazing is my memory of the students I had that were in the class
of 1993! I remember so many names, so well. I have fond memories of teaching at BHS those
years. If former students read this, e-mail to say hi!
